A pair of Knoxville golf courses are fighting to regain their tax-exempt status. They also want nearly half-a-million dollars in back taxes returned.
Cherokee Country Club has paid more than $300,000 in back taxes. Holston Hills has paid just over $50,000.
The courses paid the cash after their state comptroller's office removed their tax exemptions last year. However, the courses now say the so-called Greenbelt Law from 1976 protects them, meaning that ruling is wrong.
